Various interest groups stress the urgent need to implement the recommendations of NRP 73.

A panel discussed the recommendations of the NRP 73 White Paper and emphasised the urgent need to implement them. They particularly highlighted the key role of supply chains – since these account for a significant share of Switzerland’s environmental footprint – and stressed Switzerland’s particular responsibility in a global context.

When asked to highlight particularly noteworthy recommendations, they observed that drastic measures such as a ban on internal combustion engines will be necessary if net-zero is to be reached in the transport sector by 2050.

The panel agreed that putting the recommendations into practice should be the priority: the problem is not a lack of knowledge but of action. One example given was the importance of making buildings adaptable so that they can be used over the long term. Companies should be one step ahead, but not too far out in front, so that the market can understand and anticipate the proposed solutions.

Participants criticised the distance between the recommendations and political reality, and emphasised the role of science in developing compelling solutions. They also called for more research to be carried out into behaviours and acceptance.
