The “postfossilCities” simulation game
07.12.2023
Training of moderators
The “postfossilCities” simulation game was developed as part of the eponymous NRP 73 research project under the direction of Patrick Wäger at Empa. The game, which is available in German, French and English, is an experimental space for exploring the transition to a post-fossil society. The simulation game is aimed at current and future decision-makers who are committed to contributing to the development of climate-neutral cities. During the game, which can be played as part of a moderated workshop, participants can explore the following areas:
- Key sectors for climate mitigation (Where?)
- Effective mitigation options (What?)
- Time pressure (When?)
- Strategic alliances between societal actors (How?)
The simulation game has already been used in over 20 workshops attended by students and public administration staff, and is now ready to be made available to a wider public. Public authorities, educational institutions and potential multipliers have already expressed their interest in workshops. To disseminate the game more widely in Switzerland and possibly beyond, the following activities are planned:
- training of moderators who are able to effectively lead workshops with the postfossilCities simulation game;
- provision of the necessary prerequisites for conducting training (software systems, materials, procedures, etc.).
Based on an initial market potential of about 50-150 workshops per year and the assumption that moderators will conduct between four and six workshops per year, between 10 and 40 moderators will be needed. As a first step, the goal is to train 11-22 people.
If you are interested in becoming a moderator, you can contact the postfossilCities team directly or the NRP 73 team.
